Pink Laptop versus Boring Desktop – You Decide

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Although advances in technology have made our lives easier, we are still faced with important and sometimes difficult decisions on a daily basis. There are also decisions that aren’t necessarily important, but have an impact on how we live our lives nonetheless. One such decision is what type of computer to buy, a desktop or a laptop. Although both computers share a similar purpose, which is to help us complete daily tasks, there are certainly advantages to owning a laptop computer. Laptops are highly portable and can be customized to suit the personality of the owner. The recent surge in popularity of colored laptops is an indication of the trend toward customization.

A laptop is the computer of choice for people on the go, as it is easily portable. Laptops can be placed inside a case or backpack to be taken to the coffee shop or to the classroom or they can be used while just sitting at home on the couch. Thanks to the advancement of wireless technology, it is now possible to receive a wireless internet connection in more places than ever before. This has allowed people to become highly efficient without the need to spend a great deal of money. In fact, the prices for laptop computers have decreased dramatically over just the past 5 years, making it possible for more people to take advantages of their convenience.

Not only can laptops accomplish all of things that desktops can, but they can do so just about anywhere. Laptops can be customized with a variety of colors and designs to allow users to express themselves in a way that desktops can’t. Purchasing a pink laptop can mean the difference between getting noticed and being glanced over – the decision is yours. Christmas is approaching fast (the year just seems to fly these days!) meaning it’s time to think about shopping, making lists, decorating the tree and getting everything ready on time for Christmas day. Savvy shoppers will tell you, that doing a little up front planning will save you a lot of time and trouble than if you hit the stores without any idea about what to buy. Stuck for ideas? Don’t know where to start? Researching online can be a great brainstorming method for getting ideas. No doubt if you’ve gone to Google to search for toys you’ve discovered scores of Top 10 Christmas Toys 2009 Lists.

For some reason, these lists always seem to contain large numbers of cheap, generic toys. Most people I know want to do a god job of selecting presents at Christmas time which means avoiding those cheap, 10-minute Christmas gifts that end up in the trash after a couple of days use. So how then does one separate the good quality toys – ones that deliver good quality play time over a long period of time – from those bargain bin gifts? The fact is, you do not have to look hard to discover a top ten Christmas toy list on the net, but they are less than dependable when it comes to finding decent toys.

There are a few ways to improve your odds of finding good toys. You can visit a customer review website like Amazon.com that allows customers to rate products and leave a short comment. Amazon has a 5 star rating system making it a more reliable means of discovering products that have something going for them. By searching for products by rating, you can quickly bring back a collection of items that others have vouched highly for.

Searching by rating, however does not guarante you will find only the best quality items. If a product only has a few reviews, then the results may not reflect the “real rating” of the product. For example, people who are disgruntled about products, tend to give products an unfair rating on the low side and it might just be that this customer failed to read the instruction manual properly. On the other side of the coin, someone who has just received a product and is excited – in their elated state of mind – might rate the product too lightly, giving a five star review before they have a chance to notice the product’s flaws.

Biased ratings can be avoided by following this simple method:

  1. Search on products with high ratings (4 stars or better), but…
  2. Discard products that only have a small number of customer reviews (less than 10 doesn’t really give you the real picture).

You can determine a product’s “real rating” by considering a large number of reviews, because with more reviews, biased feedback is averaged out. Overly positive and harshly negative ratings are filtered out due to the sheer quantity of feedback giving you more assurance about a product’s real worth. The one downside in using this method is that many good quality products with only a few reviews might get discarded, but no system is perfect.

If you are busy this Christmas and have little time to hunt arond on Amazon and you would just like a quick list of ideas, we feature a Top 10 Toys For Christmas 2009 List on our website. We have done the work in seeking good quality offerings and only included the good value toys. That is to say we have based our selection of toys on a large number of positive customer feedback on Amazon, so only the best are included.

Technology has allowed computer users to enjoy increased mobility as devices become smaller all the time and as wireless internet access has become more widespread. Even ten years ago the idea that you would be able to access the internet while eating your lunch at your favorite local restaurant was definitely not the norm. Today, even in the small town where I live there are numerous locally owned businesses that offer free wireless internet.

While laptops have been getting smaller and lighter for years now, devices such as the netbook make accessing the internet on the go even easier. These popular small laptops, and in fact almost all laptops sold today come with automatic wireless capability. If you want to be able to access the internet outside your home and your laptop does not have wireless capability built in, it is very easy to add a USB wireless card and be wireless ready.

The Net Changes the Way We Live and Work

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Today’s Internet is comprised of nearly 10,000 smaller networks spanning every continent including Antarctica, and connecting every city on planet Earth. You can ride the Information SuperHighway beyond the Iron Curtain and the Great Wall of China, to the war-torn frontires of the Middle East and Bosnia, past the Great Pyramids of Egypt, down the foggy British coastline, across the scorching dunes of the Sahara and the steamy promordial jungles of Africa, through the ancient Inca ruins of South America, and back to your home town without ever leaving the comfort of your armchair.

People of all ages, from all walks of life, and from virtually every nation of the world now travel the byways of cyberspace. Some merely visit from time to time; others work eight hours a day in front of a computer teaching moms how to blog, writing articles as a freelancer or online reporter, maintaining websites and servers, or working as a call center technician in their virtual jobs. Within just a few short years the Internet has changed the way we live and work.

“You’ll never believe it,” my friend Shirley hollered into the phone.
“What,” I answered groggily.
“You know how you’ve been telling me that you wanted to buy a BlackBerry car charger?” she started.
“Yeah…” I responded, wondering where this exchange was headed.
“Well, guess what?!  They’re on sale!  Right now!  At the Verizon store!”  she announced.
“Wow, Shirley, that’s fascinating.  I’m so thrilled that you called me up to tell me.  But do you think that next time you could call me up and tell me about it at a different time of day?  I was sort of asleep.”
“Oh.”  Shirley sounded hurt and disappointed.  “I figured you would want to be the first one at the store.  So you wouldn’t get there to find out that they’re sold out.”

Before You Go Advanced, Try Intermediate Excel Training

Friday, September 4th, 2009

I have a word of advice for anyone who thinks they are great at Microsoft Excel.  Its please try intermediate Excel training before you go on the advanced course!

I know this from experience because I thought I was an Excel wizard and when my boss asked me to attend a course I laughed in his face.  Little did i know that it would come back to bite me.

You see, i attended the advanced course and I was way out of my league, I could not understand what the hell they were talking about for most of the time!

All they were doing was talking about macros and advanced formulas!  Even the tutor said I should have done the intermediate Excel training before I sat the advanced class.  Gee I felt so stupid and embarrassed.

How to remove KymSecure

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Kymsecure is a bogus spyware application which should be removed as soon as possible, if your computer has been affected by it. There are many reasons why you should do this. You may feel it is a genuine spyware removal program but it is actually not. Kymsecure is a bogus spyware tool which makes you believe it is real. It uses fake scan results and pop up windows with misleading information to convince you. If you purchase Kymsecure then you will find that it is a totally useless program which does absolutely nothing. Use a genuine spyware blocker to perform a full scan on your computer hard drive. Locate Kymsecure and remove it. Once that is done, restart your computer and it should be free of Kymsecure.
