Show Off Your Wild Side at the Gay Pride Parade

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Gays, Lesbians and everyone in between are all revved up for the much awaited gay pride event of the year! And what are you planning to wear? Some sources say this summer is all about animal prints. Would you like to be prey, or predator? It’s up to you (or your partner!) which is which. Cow prints, giraffe patterns, tiger stripes and zebra print dresses are all the rage and designers are at work coming up with the sexiest, the most outrageous and the wildest animal prints in New York.

Expect to see lots of leopard prints — the most popular animal print — on this occasion. Though a number of leopard dresses may be seen in this event, it will not matter as an assortment of feathers, sequins, fur and ruffles will dominate the affair. Be prepared to see leopard dresses in all shapes and sizes – with all kinds of fabrics too! Chiffon, tulle, cotton, spandex and lace leopard dresses will be on the streets and on the floats as the LGBT community express their freedom and pride for being who they are and for being true to themselves.

A fun and crazy idea would be to do away with wearing leopard or zebra print dresses altogether (or any dress at all!) and come to the event wearing nothing but body paint. An array of animal inspired body paint designs is available and fun, depending on your body type. If you feel cunning and ravenous why not ask to be painted with tiger stripes? If you want to show off your colorful, lively and fabulous side (which is one of the reasons why we have gay pride parades in the first place), why not paint your body with peacock-inspired art, complete with a plume of feathers and a tiny tiara.

Whatever it is you wear (or not wear) to the gay pride parade, always remember the significance of this event – that we are celebrating our identity and freedom to be able to express who we are, what we do and who we want to be with.

Sewing on your own

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

We are in, or coming out of, a depression.  There is not as much money around as there once was, now is the time to re-learn those forgotten skills that your mom or your granny tried to teach you when you were little. And there are a lot of old sewing machines and a sewing pattern or two unused and available in friends and relatives houses, so borrow them. Nothing is nicer than a beautiful home-made cardigan or jacket for a new baby or a bed jacket for your granny for her birthday. Altering clothes or mending them when they need it is another way to save money and can even make you money if you are good at it.  People often want a new zip put into a pair of trousers or a jacket and hems often need altering on skirts and dresses.

Go to a class or ask your granny to teach you, you may be pleasantly surprised at the talents you have.

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

There are many different types of hobo purse that are available on the market today. They were originally designed as a modern-day representation of the bag on a stick idea which was portrayed in cartoons and drawings of tramps and hobo’s. The hobo purse is typically crescent shaped, made of soft and flexible material, and adds to an overall slouchy look. It is one of the bags which is popular amongst the Green fashionista and has been associated with names such as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and Siena Miller. There are many different materials used in the production of these bags including black leather, polyester, and recycled materials such as the one designed by Stella McCartney. You will find that there are hobo purses to suit every price range and most senses of taste.

Selling Pendant Jewelry

Friday, November 20th, 2009

If you are a jeweler then there will be some items that you don’t enjoy selling to be giving as gifts and others which will be a joy. Pendants are one of those things that you can never go wrong with as they can be purchased for anyone who wears a chain without worrying about whether there is going to be sizing issues. Also pendant jewelry is something that its easy to tell if someone is going to be happy with it.

Buying for a devout Christian? Then you can buy them a cross without worrying they are not going to like it. For astrology fans a pendant of their star sign will always be a hit. If someone comes into your store looking for a pendant for a friend then asking the right questions can help you make a great sale that is unlikely to come back.

The bottom line when selling pendants or any other jewelry is that you have to cater to your market. What sort of items do the people who come in to your shop want to purchase. Of course, if you are selling on the Internet you have a huge audience and so might get away with selling whatever you want.

What is Jewelry?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Jewelry consists of items which are worn for adornment by anyone but more often by women rather than men. Jewelry have been worn for as long as there have been humans and many of the different types are very similar today as they were thousands of years ago. This is because the shapes and sizes of jewelry items are governed by how they are worn. There is only so big you can make an earring before it becomes clumbersome and causes pain to the wearer.

The most popular of all jewelry items has always been the ring. Whether modern titanium, affordable silver or extravagant gold and diamond eternity rings there is a special place in our hearts for the wearing of rings. Perhaps that’s why we choose the ring to seal our love during a wedding ceremony.

Artificial gemstones

Lab created diamonds are the perfect substitute from anyone who loves diamonds but is concerned with the ethics in the diamond industry. Lab created diamonds are not just fancy cut glass. The process that creates a diamond in nature is duplicated in a lab producing a gem with the same chemical makeup as a real diamond. While it only takes a few months to create a diamond in the lab versus the million years it takes the earth to create one, the process is very involved and does not always produce beautiful stones. A white lab diamond is extremely rare and difficult to create giving it a bigger price tag than a natural diamond – yellow lab stones are much more common, although good quality lab stones still command a significant price tag!
