Information on Havanese Dogs

Monday, February 15th, 2010

The havanese is a breed that most would consider and absolutely perfect size. They are not too large and not so teeny tiny that you have to worry about stepping on them as you walk through the house. Here is some basic information on havanese dogs to help you with your decision on bringing one into your home.

Although some would consider them definitely on the small side as they are considered a toy dog, they are very sturdy for their size and are not overly delicate. Their weight ranges anywhere from 8 to 15 pounds and they grow to anywhere from 8 to 12 inches tall. Their height is just a bit less than their length.

Colors of havanase dogs vary. It was once thought that havanese were all white or all different colors, but now it is normal and acceptable to find their coats in all colors and patterns. They have black noses and black outlines around their eyes. These dogs have dar almond shaped eyes, never round. You have to be careful of these endearing eyes when training as their cuteness factor will get you every time.

The coats of these breeds are very beautiful and can be like human hair as well. This makes havanese dog grooming easy. They can be cut short or long. Most people that show their havanese dog, have their hair long and soft. This requires their coat to be brushed daily. If this is not done, it would result in mats.

Havanese dogs are often listed as dogs that do not shed and that are hypo-allergenic. This makes them an ideal house pet and a good choice for those who typically couldn’t consider having a dog.

These dogs are extremely friendly, easy to train, they become very good companions, and are known for being great with children. A Havanese dog would no doubt be a great additional to any family.

Different types of dog beds

Monday, February 1st, 2010

If you are a dog lover like me than you probably want nothing less than the best for your dog. We are all used to comfort our dog with giving him the best food, play games with him and run with him in the park. But I don’t like it when my dog jumps on the couch because it is a large dog and there is a chance he might damage it. That is why I went looking for a dog bed so he could sleep on the floor but still be comfortable. To my surprise there are a lot of different dog beds out there and that is why I decided to give a short summary on what types of dog beds there are.

Newer dog beds can not be compared in any way with the old ones because there has changed a lot. Not only are they made from different fabrics, they are also more durable and are know to improve the hygiene of your dog. The one that really draw my attention was the corner dog bed, ad bed you can place in a corner in order to save a lot of space. This is especially useful if you life in a smaller house or when you don’t have much space left to put a bed for your dog.

Another thing that is really useful is the washable dog bed. You probably know how difficult it is to clean the old ones and they really collect some dirt in their. But you can clean these beds very easily and sometimes you can even throw them in the washing machine. This will not only save you time cleaning, but also increase the hygiene of your dog.

If you have a younger dog than you know how difficult it is to not let them destroy your furniture. Luckily there are some dog beds that are chew resistant, your dog will have a hard time in trying to destroy that one.

Off course there are many other options you can consider but these are the ones that draw my attention the most.

Polly Needs A New Parrot Cage

Monday, October 26th, 2009

So, your in the market for a new parrot cage are you?  Well, good luck with that, as I know just how expensive they can be when your looking locally.  Local pet stores have a tendancy to mark up these items quite extensively.  I know, as my mother and partner recently went looking for a new cage for his african grey parrot.  Fortunately, I was able to find a better price for an even better cage online.  eBay was where we found this one, and the price difference was considerable.  For about half the price, they were able to get a much nicer cage, than what was being offered at the local pet store.  We had to jump through a few hoops to get it over the border, but in the end it was well worth it.

Transatlantic Travel

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

In 1935 Charles A. Lindberg and his family migrated to Britain after the trial of the century which resulted in the execution of Bruno Hauptmann, the German carpenter convicted of kidnapping and murdering the pilot’s baby son.

The following year, the Lindberg dogs followed the family on the Queen Mary. Thor (German Shepherd) and Skean (Scottish terrier) were among the first canines to travel on board the transatlantic liner. Luxury dog kennels were located on the port side of the sports deck, behind the tennis court. To make doggie passengers feel at home they had masses of space in which to exercise. First class passengers could take a peek into the dog kennels and watch dogs romping around. They even had a lamp-post to wee against.

Cats As Pets – I Don’t Think So

You think the cat is your pet? You have bought all the cat gear and forked out for the cheapest cat insurance and you think you are in charge -right? Being the human and all right?

Yeah I don’t think so – you may have been in charge if you’d got yourself a dog – but cats are in charge of themselves from what Ive seen. Cats decide when to come and when to go and don’t even do anything useful – like behave like a guard dog. They make a mess of your house and bring you presents of dead animals.

What’s worse cats kill the local wildlife which is starting to see a backlash against them in some areas with local councils banned cats unless they are kept indoors – someone better explain that to the cat – I’m not!
