The electric guitar is an American invention of the 20th century. Today it is widely used in rock and roll music. When it was first introduced in the 1930′s, it did not make a real big hit in music. It took some years for this instrument to be evaluated and appreciated for its real use. But when this instrument gained recognition for its immense potential, new musical compositions started to be created especially in the rock music genre. It gained popularity between the 1930′s, 1940′s period, by means of the big band era. Amplified instruments started to be highly requested as to compete with the loud sound of the large brass section.
Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to produce sound. Knobs control the sound produced. Tuners tune the instrument. As to create different musical notes, you must place different fingering on the neck of the guitar. Strings run from the tuning pegs to the bridge. Its metal string vibration is converted into electricity. The amplifier amplifies sound received from the vibration of the strings. Reverb or distortion alter the output. When you combine the guitar and the amp together you obtain an incredible variety of sounds.
Electric guitars have six strings tuned by tuning pegs. They have a hollow or semi-hollow body. They can also have a solid body which is the most sought feature. On the electric guitars’ body you can find around two to three different pickups placed at different points. Each pickup produces its own unique sound. As to obtain more sound variations you have to pair multiple pickups.
You can find different, high quality guitar features from authorized dealers. Some have classical, traditional features. Others have modern features. Some guitars have a combination of all these characteristics. There is an array of different prices for every one’s budget.
