Options In Undermount Sinks

Sinks come in many different shapes, styles and sizes. There are basically three ways a sink is installed. There are free standing models which are situated on a stand. The sink and the stand create one single unit. Then there are drop-in sinks and under mount sinks. As their names imply, a drop-in sink is installed by cutting a hole that is close to the size and shape of the sink and then dropping it into the hole. An under mount sink is mounted under the countertop.

A common trend in countertops is moving toward solid surfaced countertops. Many homeowners are remodeling using surface materials such as granite, marble, quartz, or other hard stone like materials. These materials are perfect for sinks which mount under the cabinets. Sinks which mount under surfaces such as these are gaining popularity for many reasons.

Undermount sinks are both functional and aesthetically appealing. Because these sinks are mounted under the counter tip they do not have the lip that standard drop in sinks have. This makes for easy cleanup. Most of the time the cabinets are washed and debris is swept directly into the sink. With drop in sinks the lip areas can become grungy and dirty. Sinks without the surrounding lip do not collect such grime keeping areas cleaner.

With a sink mounted beneath the countertop the installer can choose where to place the faucets. One can decide how many faucets are convenient for their work area. Some may like any one of many combinations of faucets or sprayers in cooking or cleaning areas.

Under mount sinks are available for any area of the house. They can be installed in kitchens, bathrooms or work rooms. The one thing to remember is to make sure you are using a solid countertop for installing. They are mounted using several methods. Brackets or clips may be used to hold the sink in place. Or it may be secured using special glue.
