•    Rat cage trap – This type of trap resembles like a cage and is solely intended for catching rats. Cage traps do not feature any forms of killing mechanism, instead, their entry points are wired into a triggering mechanism and they will snap close once propelled. Food baits are commonly used to lure the rats inside the cage.

•    Snap trap – This is a popular and inexpensive way of trapping rats. Traps of this type feature a simple snapping mechanism and are commonly spring loaded. They have a U-shaped bar which functions as the trap’s killing mechanism. When the trap is set, any rat that will step on it will trigger the bar to snap, which will immediately kill the rat.

•    Electronic traps – This is the most advanced form of trapping rodents. They deliver a lethal dose of electricity, which is usually up to several volts, thus killing the rats in an instant. They are considered as humane traps since they do not subject the rats to a great ordeal.
