Tension Headaches VS migraines
One of the milder forms of headaches is tension headaches. Tension headaches have specific symptoms different from any other kind of headaches. Unlike migraine symptoms, tension headache symptoms include the following:
1. The pain of a tension headache is mild and not as intense as migraine headaches.
2. The pain occupies the whole head and not only one side of the head.
3. The pain is constant and not vibrant as in the case of migraines.
4. Tension headache pain does not become worse when you do some form of physical activity.
5. There are no symptoms of nausea or vomiting as in the case of migraines.
A commonality of tension headaches with migraines is that in both cases the patient may sometimes have great sensitivity to bright lights and loud sounds as well as the fact that the pain is usually behind the eye.
The typical duration of tension headaches is from a few hours to one day. Unlike migraine headaches the pain from tension headaches does not prevent you from doing your normal activities.
Tension headaches can normally be treated with normal over the counter pain killers. Usually pain killers can ease the headache pain within 30 minutes. If you notice that the pain does not go away and the frequency is increased then you may be suffering from some other form of headaches. In this case you should get assistance from a doctor specialized in headaches. The doctor will investigate the symptoms and identify the correct type of headache and provide the appropriate treatment.
