Wardrobe Closets Versus The Armoire
What’s the difference between an armoire and a wardrobe closet? The difference is mainly in, well, marketing, to be honest with you! The term armoire is a french term, and is a broad description of any furniture that is wooden and free standing and has shelves. What we call wardrobe closets came from these armoire furniture pieces, although they weren’t necessarily holding peoples wardrobe. Interestingly enough, at first, the armoire was used to house weapons and armor. Eventually it sort of merged into holding other things, such as staples every home has a place for, like food and clothes. Now, we use the term to describe fancier wardrobe closets, and of course, an excuse to pay more for what is otherwise simply a wardrobe closet.
